Härnösand Lifecycle park

kretsloppsparken-2next —

Härnösand Lifecycle park is a complete recycling facility.
Sundsvall’s residents can leave their sorted household waste materials at the facility free of charge. The service is included in residential waste collection fees. You can also leave things here for recycling. On a field trip to Lifecycle park, they explain about the different materials that are collected and why recycling them is important. Given that natural resources are scarce and that the demand for new primary resources is increasing, it’s never been more important for us to re-use the valuable waste resources we have. Studies have also shown that actively sorting and recycling household rubbish encourages other environmentally friendly behaviours.  Today only 1 per cent of our waste in Sweden becomes landfill – that is something to be very proud of. Examples of the benefits of waste recycling include (source: Swedish Waste Management): – 95% of energy is saved by using recycled aluminium compared with using new material – In Sweden, we use 300 million tea lights (small candles) every year. If we were to recycle all of their metal containers, we’d save 1000 tonnes of carbon dioxide. – From one tonne of mobile phones, one kg of silver, 300 gr of gold and 100 gr of palladium can be recycled.
During the field trip you can find out more about what happens later with the waste that is handed in.
