Biorefinery plant

International biorefinery hub

biorefinext —

As part of its long-term investment in a bio economy, SP has been operating the Biorefinery Demo Plant in Örnsköldsvik since 1st April 2013. The plant was built to develop ethanol production from forest resources and other lignocellulosic biomass.
The development of processes for cellulose-based ethanol has been successful and the technology has now entered into a commercialisation phase. This means the plant in Örnsköldsvik is now available to be used for other purposes in the form of green chemicals, fuels and materials made with new and improved biorefinery processes. Interest for new applications within this area has increased during recent years, both from companies, science research and society. The plant is an available resource for companies, universities and research institutes where research and development work can be carried out either openly or in full confidentiality, depending on the customers’ preference.
